When the McCullough Peaks bait trapping roundup concluded on March 8, 2024, a total of 40 horses were removed from the range, including the yearling filly, Kat Ballou, who died tragically from a head injury. These horses, aged 4 months to 15 years, were taken from the only home they'd ever known and transported to the Rock Springs Wild Horse Holding Facility in Wyoming. All the horses removed from McCullough Peaks are now being held in small holding pens at Rock Springs awaiting a spring/summer adoption event.
Since the roundup ended, I've been working with the wild horse sanctuary, For the Love of Aria, to help our McCullough Peaks horses find suitable homes. For the Love of Aria is working directly with other sanctuaries and private adopters to ensure each and every one of these horses finds a soft landing in a home or sanctuary where they'll be loved and cared for.
To help raise money for this cause, I’ve designed a new shirt collection which honors those horses who lost their freedom, and pays tribute to dear Kat Ballou, who lost her life fighting to be free.
A portion of the proceeds from our shirt sales will be donated to For the Love of Aria to aid in their efforts to find homes for the 39 McCullough Peaks horses who lost their freedom.
The last eighteen months was a difficult time for all of us who care deeply for the McCullough Peaks herd. We did our best to try to stop the bait trap roundup, but even after more than six thousand people spoke out against it, our concerns were ignored and the roundup began on November 27, 2023. In early 2023, I created some shirts for my friends and I to wear to show our love for these horses. After numerous requests, in January 2024, I decided to make our "Save the Wild Horses of McCullough Peaks" shirts available to the public. Now you can proudly wear these shirts to show your support for the wild horses of McCullough Peaks and to bring awareness to the plight of America's wild horses.
Each shirt features members of the McCullough Peaks herd printed in front, with the back of the shirt reading "Save the Wild Horses of McCullough Peaks. Shirts are available in multiple colors and 5 styles; from short sleeve to long sleeve to pullover hoodies. Sizes range from S to 3XL.
Now you can proudly wear your support for the wild horses of McCullough Peaks all while making others aware of the perils that face America's wild horses.
